Larry Nelson Biography
Nelson joined the PGA Tour in 1973 and won 10 PGA Tour titles.
He is best known for winning three major championships:
- 1981 PGA Championship – Won at Atlanta Athletic Club.
- 1983 U.S. Open – Won at Oakmont Country Club, setting a then-record by shooting 65-67 on the weekend.
- 1987 PGA Championship – Won in a playoff against Lanny Wadkins.
- Nelson was also a key member of three U.S. Ryder Cup teams (1979, 1981, 1987). He had a perfect 5-0-0 record in 1979.
- After turning 50, Nelson played on the Champions Tour, where he won 19 titles, including several senior majors like the Senior PGA Championship (1998).
- He continued competing into his 60s and became one of the most respected senior players.
- Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006.
